Parkinson’s and Mental Health

Having worked with people with Neurological disorders – especially those with Parkinson’s disease, I can totally relate to what Robin Williams wife is referring to.
I remember one middle-aged gentleman diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s, holding my hands with tears in his eyes asking me if there is a cure. He said that he had lost his job, his marriage and everything due to this disease.
Australia is facing one of the biggest challenges of an aging population now and statistics showing a high prevalence of people getting Neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
My request to the government and policy makers is – please continue and increase the funding for scientific research. Also, alternative therapies that helps to treat & cure (hopefully) these diseases should also be encouraged.
It’s the responsibility of an individual and government to inculcate active lifestyle and healthy eating.
