I thought I should write about how having a healthy gut improves our overall well-being. Recent advances in scientific and medical research emphasizes that the microbial population colonizing our gut is linked to a range of diseases such as obesity, cancer, inflammation and neurological disorders. On that note, it is important to keep our digestive system and digestion active. Poor digestion produces toxic chemicals that are detrimental to our body.
Cumin (Nigella Sativa), is traditionally and clinically well-known to treat various digestive complications. Thymoquinone, an active ingredient found in Cumin has also been shown to have antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and anti-diabetic properties as well as therapeutic effects on brain, heart, lung, kidney, and sexual disorders.
Usage: 1 teaspoon of Cumin seeds or Cumin powder is efficient enough to relieve temporary digestion problems. Soaking couple of teaspoons of Cumin seeds overnight and drinking that water (without seeds) regularly on an empty stomach in the morning has been shown to be beneficial to treat long-term illnesses.
